Entry into the United States
The French traveler (or the following countries: Andorra, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brunei, Denmark, Finland, France, Ireland, Iceland, Italy, Japan, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Monaco, Netherlands, New Zealand, Netherlands, Portugal, United Kingdom, San Marino, Singapore, Slovenia, Sweden, Switzerland, Czech Republic, Estonia, Latvia, Slovakia, Lithuania, Hungary and Malta), including children, whatever their age, going to the United USA (California) in traveling for pleasure or business or in transit no longer needs to be in possession of a visa requirement:
• Have received an ESTA
• To have a plane ticket round trip (which proves your exit from U.S., no matter the airport of entry and exit)
• To present a biometric passport, or electronic or optical scanning individual passport valid. Otherwise, the visa will be required.
• Projecting a maximum stay of 90 days (the stay can be extended on site, the visitor can not change status, accept employment or study)
• Present evidence of credit (credit card, travelers checks)
• Complete the application form for visa waiver (Form I-94W) issued by the transportation company during the flight.
• The visa is still required for certain categories of travelers (visa previously denied).

ESTA: New Procedure apply from September 8, 2010
ESTA (Electronic System for Travel Authorization) is a questionnaire, identical to the I94W form which is being fulfilled in the plane (from the information contained passport number, country of residence ...). For travel to the USA from September 8, 2010, it is imperative to complete the ESTA on https: / / esta.cbp.dhs.gov before the trip to receive a travel authorization.
Passengers must be equipped with this electronic travel authorization before boarding an airplane. It is valid for a period of 2 years or until expiry of passport. The form may be completed no later than 72 hours before departure, but it is recommended to do once the planned trip. Adults and children (any age) are subject to this procedure. In most cases, internal security officers will give their agreement in line almost immediately by sending the word "leave approved".
ESTA is now paying
It is mandatory that a traveler without a visa and arriving in U. S. by an airline or shipping.
For information, DHS can only check your record, or the tourist office or the Embassy are able to open it.
